Though in this mode of treatment there are no side effects but in certain cases pregnant woman have complained about side effects. What are the uses of aromatherapy in pregnancy?

Aromatherapy has shown to do wonders on your body at the time of pregnancy as there are a number of physical changes that the body undergoes during this period. If the treatment is done with care and at the hands of an expert you can complete your three trimesters without any complication as your mind and body are completely relaxed. The first trimester is the most important period during the entire term of pregnancy as it is during this period that the body undergoes majority of changes and you will require maximum rest.

Extracts of sandalwood, neroli, fennel and lavender are known to help prevent nausea and vomiting which is common during the first trimester. It has been found that a mixture of fennel oil with black pepper with any carrier oil massaged helps relieve you of constipation and the last three months of pregnancy needs utmost care as the body carries extra weight which can lead to swelling of the ankle, feet and hands. It has been found that a gentle massage using lavender oil with any other oil is very effective. The use of these natural essential oils during the entire period of pregnancy the helps solve many a body ailments.

What are the uses of aromatherapy?

There are a number of essential oils which help maintain a good health both physical and mental. Each of these oils has its own unique qualities for e.g. Eucalptus oil is effectively used as a good antibiotic; rosewood and sandalwood oil are useful as good sedatives. Neroli finds its usefulness as anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic oil. Though there are many good and positive qualities in all these essential oils there are certain oils that can cause side effects and should be avoided especially during the monthly menstrual cycle, apart from this if absorbed by body it will enter the blood stream and can be harmful to the premature baby.

Certain oils may lead to imbalance in the body as well as skin allergies. The essential natural oils like citronella, lemon, nutmeg, peppermint, should be strictly avoided as it can lead to uterine contraction and may lead to premature delivery. Geranium oil though has many positive qualities should be avoided during pregnancy as it can lead to the lowering of blood sugar.
